Oklahoma Massage License

Oklahoma began regulating the massage therapy profession and started requiring licensure for all massage therapists as of 2016. Massage therapy is regulated by the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering, and licensed under the Massage Therapy Practice Act. An Advisory Board of Massage Therapy was created to assist the State Board in carrying out its duties including establishing and enforcing standards of competency and professional conduct, as well as reviewing applications and issuing licenses for massage therapists.
To become a licensed massage therapist (LMT) in the state of Oklahoma, you must first complete the requirements as described on the Oklahoma Advisory Board of Massage Therapy website. Massage Education Requirements in Oklahoma
Applicants for an Oklahoma massage license are required to complete a minimum of 500 hours of formal instruction from an approved massage school.
Examination Requirements
The Oklahoma Advisory Board of Massage Therapy has approved the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx) offered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB), to meet the examination requirement.

Additional License Requirements
Getting an Oklahoma massage therapy license in has additional requirements. The applicant must also:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have proof of current professional liability insurance
- Have a certificate and transcript of completion from a state-licensed massage school with at least 500 hours of education in massage therapy
- Complete a criminal history information report from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation
Application Process
Those who meet the the Oklahoma massage therapy license requirement may download and complete the massage license application.
Applicants may also apply for licensure by reciprocity. This process is the same as the regular application process, but uses a different application form and requires providing evidence of licensure in another state or territory.

Fees are non-refundable and must be submitted to the Board in the form of a money order, cashier’s check or business check. Make payable to “OSBCB”. Personal checks are not accepted.
Renewal Process
All Oklahoma massage therapy licenses expire on the last day of the birth month of the licensee. Licenses can be renewed for one year or two years. The following must be done to complete your renewal application:
- Complete the renewal application attached to the bottom of your license
- Provide documentation verifying current professional liability insurance
- Complete 5 continuing education credit hours per year. CE courses must be related to the practice of massage therapy
- Send renewal fee of $50 for a 1-year license, or $100 for a 2-year license.
